Beekman 1802 Crafts a Successful Partnership with Time Warner Cable Business Class
Customer Since 2010
What began as simply a weekend retreat for two New York City dwellers has quickly flourished into their livelihood and a globally recognized lifestyle brand. Josh Kilmer-Purcell and his partner Brent Ridge – now better known as the “Beekman Boys” – created Beekman 1802, a thriving e-commerce business and storefront in Sharon Springs, NY, nearly 200 miles outside of Manhattan.
Using goats’ milk from their farm, the pair began producing soap, cheese and other artisanal goods in 2007. Today, Beekman 1802 collaborates with dozens of local artisans to craft their high- quality goods sold online, in their mercantile and through partnerships with major retailers like Anthropologie, Williams-Sonoma, Whole Foods and Disney.
“On really busy days we are shipping out hundreds of orders from our shipping room, so we have to be really efficient,” said Ridge.
Turning to Time Warner Cable Business Class to power their rapidly growing business was a “no-brainer” for these entrepreneurs, who say some 80-percent of their business comes from e-commerce sales. Despite their rural location and a population of less than 600, Beekman 1802 is able to overcome the challenges of running a global business in a remote area with advanced solutions from Time Warner Cable Business Class.
“One of the best advantages of Time Warner Cable Business Class is the speed. We’re in a rural area, but when you’re running a business, you can’t just mosey along. You have to be as fast as a business on the main street in New York City.”
Reliable Business Internet enables them to compete with the “big guys,” they said, from processing and shipping hundreds of orders each day to maintaining their social media presence. The 10 Mbps Internet Service and unlimited nationwide calling with Business Phone allowed Beekman 1802 to successfully stream live video of store activity and handle customer orders during their busiest day of the year.
“Last holiday season, we would show people when we were packaging their boxes and sending them out,” says Kilmer-Purcell. “We were taking phone calls while we were live streaming. I don’t know how Time Warner Cable Business Class did it, but everything worked seamlessly.”
Time Warner Cable Business Class provided the technology that helped Beekman 1802 grow from a modest start-up to a familiar international brand.
”One of the best advantages of Time Warner Cable Business Class is the speed,” says Kilmer-Purcell. ”We’re in a rural area, but when you’re running a business, you can’t just mosey along. You have to be as fast as a business on the main street in New York City.”
But unlike big city business operations, so much of Beekman 1802’s success is built upon the community in Sharon Springs, with each business working together closely to support one another.
”If we are going to be successful, then everyone around us needs to be successful,” said Ridge. ”The most gratifying thing we do is help other people do what they love to do, as well. Thanks to Time Warner Cable Business Class, now everybody knows Sharon Springs, NY.”
