Time Warner Cable Business Class Holds Cyber Resiliency Summit to Help Businesses and Nonprofits Prevent Cyber Attacks

Time Warner Cable Business Class (TWCBC) today held a Cyber Resiliency Summit to offer business customers and non-profit organizations an opportunity to learn and address the potential cybersecurity risks they face and solutions to address these challenges. Cybercrime was estimated in 2014 to cost the global economy upwards of $575 billion annually and the summit featured expert speakers from across the cybersecurity industry.
Non-profit organizations that attended the summit became eligible for a grant from TWCBC to strengthen and enhance their cybersecurity measures.
“Businesses and nonprofits face increasingly complex cybersecurity risks and need to understand and implement cybersecurity risk management plans that protect them and their customers,” said Brian Allen, GVP and chief security officer at Time Warner Cable. “As a communications provider for nearly 700,000 businesses and nonprofits, we’re pleased to organize this summit to help them protect their organizations from the growing threat of security attacks and technology disruptions.”
The summit featured a keynote address by FBI Special Agent Jay Kramer. Special Agent Kramer is the supervisor of a cyber squad in the FBI’s New York Office. The squad focuses on criminal cyber crimes, including computer intrusions and unauthorized access to systems. The squad has had successful cases including: Silkroad, the dark web drug market, the Blackshades enterprise, which created a remote access tool allowing unauthorized access to personal computers, and investigations into the intrusion of several American financial institutions.
Special Agent Kramer said, “The FBI values opportunities, like this Cyber Summit, to create dialogues between the public and the private sectors on cybersecurity. The cyber program remains a top priority of the FBI, and we are committed not only to sharing information on the threats we see within the business community, but also to furthering a greater understanding of what businesses can expect of the FBI if they are a victim of a cyber crime.”
Small businesses across the country are becoming more aware of the importance of cybersecurity. According to the 2015 TWCBC Small Business Technology Survey, 32 percent of small businesses responded said that keeping up with the latest technology and upgrades is one of the three biggest challenges facing their business. More than 27 percent said that securing their network from external threats is their biggest technology challenge.
The Cyber Resiliency Summit was held at the Time-Life Building in midtown Manhattan and featured speakers who shared their expertise on data privacy, information security, and how organizations can secure existing databases, learn how to respond to unanticipated cyber-disasters, build capacity in the cybersecurity world, and make cyber security a competitive advantage to grow their business.
